Manuscript Types

JTOS publishes original scholarly contributions addressing tourism sustainability and related theoretical and applied tourism research. Submissions must demonstrate a clear contribution to the journal's focus and scope, scholarly rigor, and compliance with its publication ethics and author guidelines.

1. Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles present previously unpublished findings from systematic academic investigations. They may use quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, or other appropriate research designs. Manuscripts should clearly describe the research problem, relevant scholarship, methodology, findings, discussion, and contribution to tourism research.

Empirical studies should report their sampling or case selection, data sources, data collection procedures, analytical techniques, and relevant ethical considerations sufficiently clearly to support scholarly assessment.

2. Conceptual and Theoretical Articles

Conceptual and Theoretical Articles advance tourism scholarship through original conceptual argumentation, critical synthesis, theoretical refinement, or the development of a clearly justified framework or model. Such papers must offer a substantive contribution beyond a descriptive summary of existing literature.

Authors should explain the conceptual or theoretical problem addressed, the basis for their arguments, the contribution to existing knowledge, and implications for tourism sustainability research or practice.

3. Review Articles

Review Articles critically analyze a defined body of scholarship and identify meaningful patterns, inconsistencies, knowledge gaps, and future research directions. Depending on the research question, submissions may use a systematic, scoping, bibliometric, integrative, or other methodologically justified review approach.

Authors should state their review objectives and report the literature identification, selection, evaluation, and synthesis procedures transparently. Where applicable, recognized reporting frameworks should be followed. A purely descriptive compilation of references is not sufficient.

Editorial Discretion

The editorial team evaluates whether a submission fits the journal's scope and the selected manuscript type. A manuscript may be returned for clarification, reclassification, or revision before peer review. Acceptance depends on scholarly merit and the outcome of editorial and peer-review evaluation.
